Optimizing Aided Visual Modalities
For more than two decades there has been a growing recognition that visual supports are attractive to individuals with developmental disabilities many of whom have little or no spoken language. Accordingly, a primary aim of the ALL Foundation’s research effort is to create a visual graphic language that will both allow for functional communication but also serve as a gateway to the acquisition of improved spoken language. The research & development team will explore how animation improves understanding of linguistic elements like verbs, prepositions and adjectives that have in the past eluded the person with autism and other developmental disabilities. Like sign language, any aided visual modalities will only be effective if it is imposed in an immersive manner where everyone involved in the life of the person with the severe communication impairment participates.
Creation of State of the Art Applications
The ALL Foundation will develop a multitude of applications that will have immediate relevance to persons with complex communication and learning disorders. The focus of these developments will be to improve clinical method.
Practice-Based Research On The VIS™
The ALL Foundation intends to collect practice-based evidence on the use of visual supports including Visual Immersion System™. Accordingly, the research team will systematically study the efficacy of various technologies that deliver visuals as well as study their impact on person’s who evidence a developmental disability
